陕西省西安植物园

陕西省西安植物园于1959年由中国科学院始建，是我国西北地区建设的第一个植物园。1978年交由陕西省地方建设，现归陕西省科学院管理。2006年，经陕西省编办批复，陕西省西安植物园与陕西省植物研究所实行“一套机构，两块牌子”。2011年经陕西省人民政府批准，西安植物园在原址保留12公顷外，在西安曲江新区征地43公顷建设西安植物园新园区，目前一期工程已竣工，于2016年10月1日试开园运营。

陕西省西安植物园是集植物资源收集保育、植物科学研究、植物园建设和科普教育为一体的综合性公益机构，是国际植物园保护联盟成员单位。经过60年的收集、引种、保护，现保存植物4200多种，保育珍稀濒危植物80余种，引种保存药用植物500多种，在植物保护与利用、园林花卉、药用植物研发、环境生态修复等方面已经形成了自己的特色和优势。多年来，获国家和地方科技成果奖励100多项，目前与40多个国家和地区的100多个植物园保持着科技合作与业务往来，对提升西安国内影响及国际形象起到了重要的促进作用。

陕西省西安植物园是国家、省及西安市三级科普教育基地和青少年科技创新教育基地。自1984年对外开放以来，西安植物园承担了“全国科普日”、“科技之春”、“学术金秋”、“科技下乡”、“科技活动周”等系列活动，为科学知识的普及和传播，提高公众科学文化素质做出了重要贡献。

Introduction of Xi’an Botanical Garden of Shaanxi Province

Xi’an Botanical Garden of Shaanxi Province (XABG) was founded in 1959 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which was the first botanical garden built in the northwest of China. In 1978, it was handed over to Shaanxi Province, and from then on it is under the administration of Shaanxi Academy of Sciences. In 2006, XABG and the Institute of Botany of Shaanxi Province were implemented “two brands for one unit”. Approved by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government in 2011, a new site of XABG which located in Qujiang New District and covered an area of 43 hectares, had been built and opened to the public from 1st, Oct, 2016. Meanwhile, the 12 hectares original garden was also retained.

Xi'an Botanical Garden of Shaanxi Province is a comprehensive public welfare institution and a member of Botanic Gardens Conservation International（BGCI）. It has by tradition been engaged in collection and conservation of plant species. Simultaneously, its attention is concentrated on plant science research, botanical garden construction and science popularization education. Through continuous collection and introduction for 60 years, totally 4,200 plant species, cultivars and varieties are in situ conserved in our garden, including more than 80 rare and endangered species and 500 medicinal plants. XABG has formed its own characteristics and advantages in plant protection and utilization, ornamental flowers research, medicinal plant research and ecological restoration. Over the years, more than 100 national and local scientific and technological awards have been obtained for its research findings. At present, Xi’an Botanical Garden maintains scientific and technological cooperation as well as business transaction with more than 100 botanical gardens in over 40 countries and regions, which has played an important role in promoting domestic influence and international image of Xi’an metropolis.

As an education base of national, provincial and municipal for science popularization and science & technology innovation for teenagers, Xi’an botanical garden has being paid great attention to science popularization education. Since its opening to the public in 1984, Xi'an Botanical Garden has undertaken a series of activities for dissemination of scientific knowledge, such as “National Public Science Day”, “Spring of Science and Technology”, “Academic Golden Autumn”, “Bring Technology to the Countryside” and “Science and Technology Activities Week”, which have made great contributions to improving the scientific and cultural quality of the public.
